I don't know if this contest has been mentioned on here before, but since the voting is open now and I have a story in the running, I might as well advertise the heck out of it.   Grin

The Anthrofiction Network Short Story Contest (run by Scott Miller) is held quarterly, and this quarter's theme was "green."  There are six entries this time around, and the stories get scored by the readers in four areas: theme, creativity, enjoyability, and technical.  You will have to do a quick and painless sign-up to be able to access the stories -- this is so that the entries aren't considered published.

Voting ends June 7th.

Well, right now all that's happening is reading this quarter's stories and voting (and/or commenting) on them.  As far as submitting a story goes, that will open up again next quarter for the summer contest.

Voting has been extended through June 11th now, I believe, due to some technical issues with getting the ballots ready to go.

Some good reading there, I think, and worth checking out.  And I'm not just saying that because I have a story in the running.   Wink

well in that case I might just take a peak. expecially at your own story. Wink

then again...if "Bell" is done by that time, maybe I'll submit that. I think it would do well.

Well, I forgot to mention that the contest uses blind judging, so they're all posted anonymously.  But cookies if you can guess which one was mine once it's over.  Smiley  Some authors in the past have told which stories were theirs and encouraged their friends to go vote for them, but personally that doesn't feel right to me, so I'd rather encourage people just to read as many of the entries as they can and vote however they think is best.

And that's the other thing I forgot to mention -- there is a theme for each quarter.  (This time around it was "green.")  So, the story would have to fit the theme in some way.  But there's usually about two months at least from the time the theme gets announced to the end of the submission period, so you'd have time to come up with something else if that one doesn't fit.

I would like to enter one of these contest one of these days. Maybe for the fall contest I will have to see what the subject before making a decision. I am wondering if you can use characters that you use in other stories that are yours in the contest. I will more than likely will have to read closely into the contest rules, that is unless some one tells me  Cheesy Cheesy

As long as the characters you use are entirely yours, I don't see a problem.

The next contest theme hasn't been announced yet, but you can see the results from the spring contest here: http://www.anthrofiction.net/past_contests/index.php?contestID=2008_q2

The Anthrofiction Story Contest, which is the evolution of the original Nadan's Watching Stone Contest, is highly recommended, and can certainly do with more attention both from writers and readers!

This contest continues to be a great forum for featuring your work and getting feedback from readers. The current theme is "The Gift" and it's open for submissions.
